Baylon Villa, a Licensed Residential Service Home, located East of Ottawa is looking to hire full time Personal Care Attendant.

Job requirements:
Languages: English & French
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. PSW or equivalent preferred.
Experience: 1 to 2 years preferred
Security and Safety: Background Verification clearance needed.
Work location Information: Staff accommodation available if needed.
Personal Suitability: Excellent oral communication, Dependability, Organized, Reliability, Judgment, client focus, punctuality.
Job responsibilities: Supply and empty bed pans, serve meal trays, feed patients, make beds and maintain patient rooms, maintain inventory of supplies, cleaning or sterilizing equipment, perform housekeeping and cleaning duties, taking blood pressure, temperature and pulse. Administer medication.
Credentials: First aid certificate, CPR certificate a must.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Implement Abuse Protection Policies:
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to safeguard clients from abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Ensure that the organization’s abuse prevention policies align with local regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Regularly review and update safeguarding policies to ensure they remain effective.
2. Monitor Client Well-being:
- Observe and monitor client activities to detect potential signs of abuse or neglect.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities within the client population.
- Ensure that clients feel safe and supported in their environment.
3. Provide Training & Awareness:
- Conduct regular training and awareness sessions for staff on identifying, reporting, and preventing abuse.
- Educate staff, clients, and visitors about the organization's safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all employees understand the importance of safeguarding and the steps to take in cases of suspected abuse.
4. Investigate and Report Abuse Concerns:
- Respond promptly and appropriately to allegations or suspicions of abuse.
- Investigate any incidents or concerns regarding client abuse, maintaining confidentiality and objectivity.
- Document incidents and take appropriate action in line with legal and organizational procedures.
- Liaise with relevant authorities, such as social services, law enforcement, or regulatory bodies, when necessary.
5. Support Clients and Families:
- Provide emotional support and guidance to clients affected by abuse.
- Work with families, caregivers, or legal representatives to address concerns about abuse and ensure the client’s well-being.
- Advocate clients to ensure their rights are upheld and their safety is prioritized.
6. Ensure Compliance:
- Ensure that all staff members adhere to safeguarding procedures and understand their roles in protecting clients.
- Conduct audits or inspections to assess the effectiveness of safeguarding measures in place.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in safeguarding.
7. Promote a Culture of Safety:
- Foster a culture of openness, where clients and staff feel comfortable reporting abuse or concerns without fear of retaliation.
- Encourage proactive measures to prevent abuse and promote the overall safety and dignity of clients.
8. Collaboration and Reporting:
- Work closely with other departments, agencies, or external organizations to coordinate safeguarding efforts.
- Prepare reports on safeguarding activities and provide regular updates to management or board members.
- Attend meetings or panels related to safeguarding and abuse prevention.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
- A degree in social work, nursing, psychology, or a related field is typically required.
- Additional certifications in safeguarding, child protection, or relevant training may be preferred.
Experience:
- Proven experience in a safeguarding or protection role, especially in vulnerable client care settings (e.g., child protection, elder care, healthcare).
- Experience in policy development, investigation, and staff training is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of abuse types (physical, emotional, sexual, neglect, etc.) and their impact on individuals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage investigations and reporting procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in safeguarding.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external agencies.
